Notice: I have decided to resume my journey again in Feb 2016 after the summer holidays and schools are back
"Why would I want to Cycle the Length of NZ with a dog in a trailer with hopefully many other participants joining in to raise money for 13 charities?" Because I can!
Also, I want to give back. As you know we live in such a wonderful country with extraordinary people and if; through this journey I can help promote/educate/share with many others while out and about doing something I love, then why not?
October 2014 saw me slowly resurface from nearly 3 years on the couch after my mental health collapsed. This journey with my "best mate" Indy is all part of my recovery. It is also a tribute to the professional and personal support I have being afforded and an opportunity to share what I have learn't if people should ask. Twenty years ago I cycle toured the West Coast of the USA, Vancouver Island and mountain biked many tracks in Moab Utah. Now it's time for an adventure on Nga Haerenga the New Zealand Cycle Trail. Our Journey starts at Cape Reinga Lighthouse on the 1st of October and will end on Stewart Island approximately 4 months later.
The expectation is that while Indy and I travel along on our Journey, with the assistance of a support vehicle we will be joined by many others that will wish to do the same. These wonderful people will be required to ask their friends and family to sponsor them "so many cents/dollars per km" and those funds will go directly to the 13 charities via the Give a Little page "Leisa & Indy's NZ Charity Cycle Journey - Fundraise Page. If joining in on a trail is not possible and you are in a position to donate, please do so and then come and say hello when Indy and I get to your wonderful part of NZ.
